Description

An eight-item parent-report subscale that measures the frequency of parents’ positive engagement activities with and knowledge of their preschool-aged children.

Components

  • PRQ involvement subscale as a measure of parental engagement in positive activities: The study used the eight-item involvement subscale from the Parenting Relationship Questionnaire—Preschool Form to measure parental engagement. Items tap "parents’ active participation in positive engagement activities, along with the parent’s knowledge of the child’s activities," including planning things to do together, teaching new games, working on projects, taking walks, and doing arts and crafts. Parents rated items on a 4-point Likert scale from never to always. Confirmatory factor analysis showed adequate fit at all three waves for both parents, and measurement invariance held across time and between mothers and fathers. Cronbach's alphas ranged from .84 to .90 for mothers and .84 to .87 for fathers. (Tiago Ferreira et al. (2018))
