Description¶
Really Great Reading is a branded foundational-literacy curriculum developed by Really Great Reading for teaching early reading skills, including phonics and fluency, through classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, or tutors.
Components¶
- Deliver foundational literacy instruction with existing classroom staff and no additional personnel: RGR is designed so that "Classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, or tutors can deliver instruction" and "No additional staff is required." This staffing model keeps implementation feasible within existing school resources, complementing the program's emphasis on efficient instruction and minimized teacher preparation time through digital lesson delivery tools. (Really Great Reading (2023))
- Really Great Reading foundational literacy programs (Countdown, Blast, HD Word): Really Great Reading offers structured foundational literacy curricula grounded in the science of reading, providing "explicit instruction in phonological awareness, phonics, word recognition, decoding, encoding, and fluency." The programs span Countdown (Kindergarten), Blast (Grade 1), and HD Word (Grades 2–3), with print and online teacher tools. Instruction is "systematic and cumulative" and serves learners across Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 support. (Really Great Reading (2023))
- Blast Online and HD Word Online presentation tools with the Reading Playground practice environment: Blast Online and HD Word Online are web-based teacher presentation tools accompanying the Lesson Plan Teacher Guide Sets. The online tools "reduce teacher prep time, include visual supports and practice opportunities, and can be accessed on any device," including whiteboards, projectors, laptops, and tablets. Students use the Reading Playground to independently practice foundational literacy skills, and teachers leverage it for "assessment, progress monitoring, and targeted instructional decision-making."
