Description¶
An open educational curriculum package developed by the RCS Core Team comprising professional-development modules, a classroom guidebook, and Community Socratic Circle materials for facilitating text- and question-centered discussions.
Components¶
- Socratic Circles OER suite: professional development modules, classroom guidebook, and Community Socratic Circle materials: The RCS Core Team developed Open Educational Resources centering a Socratic Circles model: "learner-centered group discussions in which participants learn from one another with discussion centered around a text or essential questions," which teachers and students can lead or co-lead. The suite comprises Professional Development Modules on racial equity and social justice, a Socratic Circle Classroom Guidebook serving as a playbook with student-facing scaffolding materials, and Community Socratic Circle materials engaging community members, students, and school staff. The structure was designed to let students participate at their individual comfort levels, maintain civility, and safeguard ag (Johnson et al. (2023))
