Description¶
The Transparency and Openness Promotion (TOP) Guidelines are a policy framework developed by social scientists, editors, and funders to guide journals and funding agencies in adopting standards for transparent, preregistered, reproducible research.
Components¶
- TOP Guidelines for transparency and openness in publishing and funding: The Transparency and Openness Promotion (TOP) Guidelines, developed in 2014 among social scientists, editors, and funders, are a policy framework for journals and funders. The article states they "cover eight specific standards where open science can be practiced in publishing and funding", including data citation; data, materials, and code transparency; design and analysis transparency; preregistration; and replication research. Each standard has three levels of increasing rigor, and TOP provides specific policy recommendations and a plan for increasing rigor over time. (Mellor (2021))
