Description¶
The orchestration scenario envisions a teacher-AI partnership for socially rich classrooms: the agent helps form groups, monitors participation, suggests sentence starters when students are not reacting to each other, pairs students with complementary essay drafts, flags frustration, and reviews discussions with the teacher. The report specifies that "the AI agent’s role might not be heavy-handed management of exactly how and when students learn, but rather a set of small actions that help teachers shape her classroom." Weak orchestration is projected within five years, stronger partnership within ten.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Teachers must be involved in co-design; systems should support differing teacher preferences and avoid cognitive overload
Constraints¶
- Privacy of recorded conversations, interaction, and affect data is a top concern; teacher data protection may need new policies beyond FERPA
Target Learners¶
- Middle school and K-12 students working in individuals, pairs, small groups, and whole classrooms
Target Learning Goals¶
- Equal participation, richer student-to-student conversation, collaborative project work, and social learning
Claims¶
Related Strategies¶
- Seven research priorities for AI in learning, spanning expanded scenarios, teacher assistance, assessment, responsible AI, equity policy, stakeholder engagement, and ecosystem strengthening
- Use pre-action reviews and structured sentence starters to support high-integrity CoBi reflection
