Description¶
This strategy packages the classroom practices teachers in the study used to supervise ethical AI use in science learning. Teachers conducted "AI ethics lessons," had students sign usage pledges, and showcased model cases of responsible use. Students were required to mark which parts of their reports were generated with AI and articulate their own reasoning, and teachers adopted cross-validation, retained AI dialogue records, and awarded an "AI Integrity Star" to recognize responsible use. These practices embed integrity, verification, and reflection into AI-supported activities.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Teacher capacity to design explicit ethical-awareness activities and monitor AI use, including reviewing AI dialogue records and student report markings.
Constraints¶
- Practices were reported by teachers already using AI tools in Chinese K-12 science classrooms; the article does not evaluate their effectiveness.
Target Learners¶
- K-12 science students
Target Learning Goals¶
- Responsible and honest use of AI
- Critical verification of AI outputs
- Scientific integrity
Related Strategies¶
- Embed ethical inquiry into AI-supported instruction by having learners compare AI-generated texts with peer-reviewed sources
- Design AI-integration activities that set explicit expectations for AI-assisted work, integrate reflective assessments of AI outputs, and build tasks strengthening critical thinking and academic integrity
