The Four T's: Tell, Tinker, Tweak, Transfer for using an AI UDL thought partner¶

Description¶
The Four T's is the authors' published four-step routine for engaging with LUDIA, first released in 2023 and free to access. The educator begins by telling LUDIA about "the learners in their care, the learning plans, and the challenges", then continues the chat asking for clarification, examples, and materials, adapts the provisional outcomes to fit context, and finally reflects on the impact of identifying and reducing barriers using Visible Thinking Routines such as "I Used to Think, but Now I Think", "Connect, Extend, Challenge", or "3-2-1 Bridge". The authors stress that the first response is not where the value lies; an exchange that stops at the second T is not yet full use of LUDIA as a thought partner.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- The Transfer step requires deliberate reflection routines; stopping after Tinker leaves the professional learning unrealised
Constraints¶
- The routine predates the four 2026 guidance frameworks discussed in the statement and was not designed against them
Target Learners¶
- Educators, instructional designers, and learning leaders using an AI planning partner
Target Learning Goals¶
- Deepening UDL practice through contextual barrier-reduction and reflective transfer
Related Strategies¶
- Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework: the framework whose barrier-reduction the routine deepens
Examples¶
- LUDIA: the AI UDL thought partner the routine is written for
