Improve SBE reporting detail and involve LMIC perspectives in developing future reporting standards¶
Strategy · All strategies
Evidence · 1 claim (1 for) · 1 study (1 review),q3· 0 of 1 report an effect size · 1 claim rests on one study
Description¶
The review recommends that authors report SBE initiatives in greater detail to improve transparency and replicability, including simulation design, prebriefing, debriefing, skill maintenance, feedback, curriculum integration, program cost, and duration. It further recommends "greater involvement of LMIC perspectives in the development of future guidelines to ensure they are appropriate and consider all settings," or region-specific standards. This addresses misconceptions that SBE is prohibitively expensive for low-resource settings.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Authors must report program features such as simulation design, prebriefing, debriefing, program cost, and duration for comparisons to be possible
Constraints¶
- Current reporting standards are based heavily on research from high-income countries and are rarely referenced in LMICs
Target Learners¶
- health workers and health students in low- and middle-income countries
Target Learning Goals¶
- clinician competency and patient care outcomes in resource-limited settings
Claims¶
Related Strategies¶
- Develop a checklist to facilitate detailed description of health-education interventions and promote replicability
- Future research should use standardized validated outcome measures, longitudinal follow-up designs, and methods linking learner gains to patient-relevant outcomes
