Description¶
The article describes two implementable supports for scaling ePortfolio. First, as adoption grew, IUPUI created "a peer-led ePortfolio Studio ... as a dedicated campus space where students could work with a peer mentor on creating and refining their ePortfolios and getting feedback," focusing on making skills such as design, structure, aesthetics, audience awareness, cohesiveness, and multi-modal communication. Second, professional development is approached "with a longitudinal lens," iterating as buy-in shifts from a single faculty member to program-wide commitment, using consultations, workshops, Communities of Practice, grants, and conference funding.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- coordination and development of groups of faculty and staff working with intentionality over a period of time
- professional development needs change as ePortfolio activities expand across courses and programs
Constraints¶
- University College lacked resources to sustain intensive professional development at scale, and pilot-year student success gains were not consistently sustained
Target Learners¶
- undergraduate students
- faculty and staff implementing ePortfolio
Target Learning Goals¶
- ePortfolio making skills
- integrative learning
- reflection
Related Strategies¶
- Teacher-led workshops and freely downloadable materials to scale video analysis and modeling practice
- Sequence pathway development activities across three years: buy-in, SCRIPT assessment and summer institutes led by model-district teachers, then piloting with microcredentials
- Operationalize the faculty standards through structured professional learning pathways with modules, microcredentials, and peer review
