Provide nursing students with repeated exposures to HFPS sessions to build self-efficacy and self-confidence over time¶

Description¶
The review recommends that, because single-session HFPS did not significantly improve self-efficacy or self-confidence, educators "provide students with repeated exposures to the HFPS sessions in order to maintain successful performances over time". Repeated practice would let students observe other students' success, increasing encouragement and engagement, with outcome evaluation at intermediate and long-term intervals.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Outcome evaluation should occur during both intermediate and long-term intervals, not only immediately after a single session
Constraints¶
- The recommendation is the authors' interpretation offered because single-session measurements may not detect change; it was not tested in the included studies
Target Learners¶
- undergraduate nursing students
- postgraduate nursing students
Target Learning Goals¶
- self-efficacy
- self-confidence
- clinical performance in life-threatening conditions
Claims¶
- Self-confidence gains from single-session simulation are often temporary, suggesting a dose–response effect [+W]
- HFPS based on life-threatening scenarios shows no significant difference from other teaching methods on nursing students' self-efficacy (d=0.05) [+W]
