Deploy agentic AI in education with transparency about agentic decisions, human oversight and institutional responsibility¶
Strategy · All strategies

Description¶
The review recommends that deployment of agentic AI in education be governed by transparency, privacy and oversight mechanisms. It states that "Ethical deployment also necessitates transparency in how the agentic decisions are being taken, particularly when affecting learner pathways or assessments", and that preserving human oversight and institutional responsibility through clearly articulated integration protocols is "not merely a technical need but a pedagogical and ethical requirement". Its Table 4 consolidates responsible deployment guidelines.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Mechanisms of informed consent, role-based access and secure data handling, given that education data is sensitive and governed by guidelines such as GDPR and FERPA
Constraints¶
- The guideline applies as systems become increasingly autonomous; the review ties it to decisions affecting learner pathways or assessments
Target Learners¶
- learners in institutions deploying agentic AI, whose data and pathways are affected
Target Learning Goals¶
- safe and ethical use of autonomous AI in learning environments
Claims¶
Related Strategies¶
- Prioritise longitudinal validation, pedagogical grounding, governed adoption of agent infrastructures, and ethics with human oversight in educational agentic AI research
- Establish comprehensive institutional AI governance frameworks including task forces, roadmaps, and transparent policies
- Address equity, transparency, and teacher professional judgment when deploying AI-mediated collaboration
- Address core ethical challenges—data privacy, algorithmic fairness, and transparency—when deploying AI-driven personalized learning
- Adopt ethical safeguards and pedagogically grounded frameworks when deploying GenAI assessment tools
- Adopt a roadmap for ethical CAI implementation in education
- Apply an affective data governance framework: minimization, purpose limitation, consent, human oversight, and separation from evaluation
- Use explainability tools (SHAP/LIME) and human monitoring for fair, transparent AI-driven personalized learning
- Manage ethical risks of AI-driven TEFL tools through data protection policies, fairness audits, human oversight, and balanced-use design
- Deployment priorities for classroom AI feedback tools: latency ceiling, adaptive onboarding, and verifier transparency
- Ethical governance safeguards for robot-supported mental health education with children
- Automated assessment outputs must retain human monitoring and never serve as official grades or sole decision bases
