Represent small and rural districts in statewide materials review through regional professional development program coordinators¶
Strategy · All strategies
Evidence · no claims cited
Description¶
To ensure rural districts are well represented on statewide review panels, NDE carved out "an explicit path for rural districts to communicate their needs and interests to their RPDPs, who represented them on content-area review panels." RPDP coordinators bring two decades of expertise in curriculum, equity, culturally responsive teaching, and technology, and serve as subject-matter experts across content areas on panels.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Regional coordinators must know and understand the NVACS and the instructional needs of the districts their RPDP serves, and represent those districts on CARPs
Constraints¶
- Depends on existing regional professional development infrastructure; the report notes rural staff capacity limits made direct participation infeasible in the past
Target Learners¶
- Students in small and rural Nevada districts
Target Learning Goals¶
- Equitable district access to approved high-quality instructional materials
Related Strategies¶
- Use a universal rubric with dual criteria — standards alignment and access/equity — for cross-content-area review of instructional materials
- Facilitate a multi-session collaborative workgroup to co-develop state guidance
