Use a universal rubric with dual criteria — standards alignment and access/equity — for cross-content-area review of instructional materials¶
Strategy · All strategies
Evidence · no claims cited
Description¶
The refined Nevada process uses "a materials checklist, roles and responsibilities guidance, a timeline, and a universal rubric" so reviewers across content areas rate materials consistently. "The rubric requires any approved materials to meet two sets of criteria" — alignment to the Nevada Academic Content Standards and the access and equity dimensions of the material — replacing content-area rubrics that previously varied in scope and complexity.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Reviewers must be trained on the review process, NVACS, the universal rubric, and rubric calibrating procedures before rating materials
Constraints¶
- Applies to statewide adoption of core instructional materials in Nevada; approved materials must pass both the alignment and access/equity criteria sets
Target Learners¶
- K-12 students in districts of all sizes and types across Nevada
Target Learning Goals¶
- Access to standards-aligned, culturally engaging instructional materials across content areas
Related Strategies¶
- Represent small and rural districts in statewide materials review through regional professional development program coordinators
- Checklists & Rubrics
- Equity Audits
