Employ standardized, validated UX questionnaires and commercial HMDs to strengthen and scale XR education research¶

Description¶
The review recommends that "standardized questionnaires (e.g., SUS, NASA TLX, and others) need to be consistently employed" and that novel neurosurgery-specific questionnaires be developed, since custom author-designed items without theoretical foundations undermine comparability and validation. It further argues that promoting low-cost commercial head-mounted displays could let departments worldwide, especially in developing countries, overcome socioeconomic barriers to advanced simulation systems and enlarge participant cohorts.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Access to commercial off-the-shelf stereoscopic displays such as HMDs
Constraints¶
- Only one included study employed standardized questionnaires; static monitors with haptic devices currently dominate and are associated with more thorough UP assessment
Target Learners¶
- medical students
- neurosurgical residents
- neurosurgery residency programs in developing countries
Target Learning Goals¶
- surgical skill acquisition and assessment in cranial neurosurgery
