Description¶
The Start, Stop, Continue process lets district and school staff engage educational partners in reflecting on problems of practice or school climate goals. Partners reflect on what promising practices should be started, what current practices should be stopped because they may cause harm or yield fruitless results, and what should be continued because they lead to beneficial outcomes.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- A regular routine of identifying and celebrating achievements within school and district communities to create opportunities for uncovering promising practices
Constraints¶
- Intended for reflecting on problems of practice or school climate goals with educational partners, not for individual leader decisions
Target Learners¶
- School and district staff working with students, families, and community partners
Target Learning Goals¶
- Identifying promising practices
- allocating time and resources toward successful practices
- phasing out less effective approaches
Affordances¶
Related Strategies¶
- Conduct focus groups to hear firsthand from multiple partners and build shared understanding beyond the numbers
- Conduct one-on-one empathy interviews with open-ended questions to uncover root causes of system challenges
- Hold listening sessions in accessible locations where staff simply listen to educational partners
