Have classroom teachers develop CT-integrated example lessons and practical integration routines to operationalize a competency map¶
Strategy · All strategies

Description¶
To operationalize the competency map for teachers, IPSD had a team of six teachers add "classroom-relevant examples of CT-integrated lessons aligned to the IPSD standards and curricula" and, with district leaders, produce a one-page summary with integration activity ideas and example routines such as mind mapping. This makes the map usable at the elementary level.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Time for a teacher team to work during the school year in collaboration with district leaders
Constraints¶
Target Learners¶
- Elementary teachers and students
Target Learning Goals¶
- Integrating computational thinking competencies into disciplinary lessons
Related Strategies¶
- Leverage school-based librarians to create and deliver K-6 CS/CT lessons when classroom integration slows
- Show teachers concrete examples of computational thinking in practice before asking them to design CT lessons
