Description

The Sociocultural Model emphasizes the social and contextual situatedness of writing as an activity, stressing language as a social, cultural and interactional phenomenon rather than a property of the individual writer. Inspired by Vygotsky's Sociocultural theory, it holds that "learning to write is viewed as collaborative and socially constructed", with students and teachers co-creating meaning through interaction and reciprocal teaching. It also allows L2 writers to express social identity beyond linguistic fluency and mechanics.
