Description

The IEEP strategy holds that because countries of a region share characteristics and benefit from exchanging information, resources and competences, curriculum harmonisation for environment and development education is best begun at subregional level. The article argues "it might be more practical to start on a subregional basis, since this presents the advantage of dealing with smaller groups of countries capable of presenting greater homogeneity in terms of environmental as well as educational, socio-cultural, economic and other contexts." Subregional workshops review existing curricula and produce adaptable prototypes integrating environment and development issues on an interdisciplinary basis, with a two-pronged focus on students and on teachers who often lack systematic EE training.
