Subclaims¶
Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q3 i3 The Picture group significantly outperformed the Four Pictures group (d = 1.11) and the Animation group (d = 1.30) on identification of arrangements. → Rolf Ploetzner 2021

Same three-group experiment (N = 88). On arrangement identification the single-picture group scored highest (M = 3.93 of 4); post-hoc tests showed "d = 1.11" versus Four Pictures and "d = 1.30" versus Animation, both p < 0.01, while Four Pictures and Animation did not differ (LSD = 0.00, p = 0.985).
"With regard to the identification of arrangements, post-hoc analyses reveal that the group ‘Picture’ significantly differs from the group ‘Four Pictures’ (LSD = 1.00, p < 0.01, d = 1.11) and the group ‘Animation’ (LSD = 1.00, p < 0.01, d = 1.30)."

Related Claims¶
- Learners' mechanical ability and spatial ability were not significantly related to identification performance in the main study
- Visualization format has a large multivariate and univariate effect on identifying motions and spatial arrangements — a broader claim this one bears on
- A re-analysis of a meta-analysis found learning from animations more effective than static pictures only when features of the displayed changes were relevant to learning — reports the opposite
- Animation produces a small overall learning advantage over static graphics in multimedia instruction — reports the opposite
- Learning from an animation is significantly more successful than learning from static pictures when identifying the specific motions of a gear mechanism's links — related
- The three touch-based-action groups did not differ significantly on the identification test — related
