q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r

This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q2 i? In Bernos's study of NDEA counseling institute participants, none of the selection factors significantly predicted success, and tests were concluded to be poor predictors of counselor trainee success. → Rowe 1975

Rowe, Wayne; Murphy, Harry B.; De Csipkes, Robert A. (1975). The Relationship of Counselor Characteristics and Counseling Effectiveness. Review of Educational Research, 45(2). https://doi.org/10.3102/00346543045002231
q2 · i? · review · r3
The review reports Bernos (1966), who compared 57 counselor selection criteria variables with eight success criteria using data from NDEA counseling institute participants; no factor was a significant predictor. The review attributes the conclusion to Bernos.
"However, more significant here, none of the factors were found to be significant predictors, and it was concluded, simply, that tests were poor predictors of counselor trainee success."
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- Most investigated counselor personality variables are not significantly related to effectiveness criteria, and variables significant in one study often show contrary results when re-investigated — related
- 16PF-derived predicted-effectiveness indices correlate with supervisor and client ratings (.41, .87), but the review judges use of the 16PF for trainee selection premature — related
- Course grades and GPA predict high school and college outcomes better than standardized test scores or coursework — related
- Neither cognitive ability, curiosity, nor epistemic behavior significantly predicts tertiary academic performance in the heterogeneous sample — related
- Global-judgment criteria of counselor effectiveness lack clarity, making replication fruitless and the research unproductive — related
- Self-actualization (POI) correlates of rated counseling performance reported by Foulds could not be confirmed on replication — related
