This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q3 i2 In a randomized controlled trial with differential attrition, VIP improved cloze-passage reading performance for English language learners with an effect size of 0.50 that was not statistically significant but was substantively important by WWC standards. → Vocabulary Improvement Program for English Language Learners and Their Classmates 2006

q3 · i2 · causal · r2
WWC re-analysis of the Carlo et al. (2004) randomized controlled trial's English language learner subsample (142 fifth graders in 16 classrooms). The cloze-passages finding showed effect size 0.50, mean difference 1.92, rated ns, with an improvement index of +19 percentile points; the effect was "substantively important by WWC standards".
"The WWC analysis of the English language learner subsample found no statistically significant differences on reading achievement (performance on cloze passages), but the effect was large enough to be considered substantively important by WWC standards."
