Description¶
A 37-item survey developed to identify perspectives of K-12 and higher education educators on research conducted in DLPs, adapted from a questionnaire previously administered at Rice University. It used branching logic to tailor questions by educational context, with 18 common items on research involvement, awareness, and ethics on a 1-to-5 agreement scale, plus K-12 and higher education context items. It was disseminated nationally from February 2025 to June 2025 and yielded 43 respondents.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Branching logic to tailor questions based on the participant's primary educational context
Constraints¶
- Participants were not required to answer every item, producing minor discrepancies between total respondents and per-item responses
Target Learners¶
- K-12 educators
- higher education educators
Target Learning Goals¶
- understanding educator perceptions of DLP-based research benefits, challenges, and ethical considerations
Claims¶
- K-12 and higher education educators express generally positive feelings about research on digital learning platforms, with no negative respondents [+W]
- Access to evidence-based strategies and understanding how students learn are top motivators for both groups' interest in DLP research [+W]
- Higher education educators report greater awareness of research on digital learning platforms than K-12 educators [+W]
- K-12 educators value product-improvement research more, and individual-adaptation research less, than higher education educators [+W]
- Educators rate student data privacy as very or extremely important, but K-12 educators largely remain unaware of the privacy measures DLP research takes [+M]
