Description

A multiorganization collaboration implemented a trauma-informed approach in Head Start programs in the Appalachian region of the US through "a comprehensive, three‐tier model" using trained classroom consultants. Tier one provided universal consultation to build teacher capacity to deliver an evidence-based social-emotional curriculum (Second Steps or Incredible Years) and trauma-informed training and mentoring; tier two provided targeted consultation to develop behavior plans for individual children; tier three provided on-site mental health assessment and treatment, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy and/or Parent–Child Interaction Therapy, plus workforce development training for preschool teachers.
