Description¶
The project produced modified task analysis charts (Figure 2) detailing activities performed by ABE teachers and the specific and generic knowledge/skills each requires. Charts cover testing and placement, diagnosing student work, curriculum and materials development, information gathering, audio-visual equipment operation, delivering instruction, and counseling and follow-up. For example, under testing, a teacher "Selects test materials suitable for an adult population from classroom texts, current media, job related materials, common life experiences."
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Task analysis was selected as "a much more powerful technique for ascertaining staff development needs than a general survey"
Constraints¶
- Charts were produced for two Region II priority areas only: English as a Second Language and Individualization of Instruction
Target Learners¶
- adult basic education teachers and staff developers
Target Learning Goals¶
- identifying the competencies ABE teachers need in testing, diagnosis, curriculum development, instruction, and counseling
