Sample practice-driven R&D agendas for adolescent literacy, computational thinking, and implementation¶
Element · All elements
Evidence · no claims cited
Description¶
The article presents three illustrative R&D agendas built from district driving questions: an adolescent literacy agenda (covering diverse texts and writing identity), a computational thinking agenda (covering access to CT opportunities and CT assessment), and an implementation agenda. The authors caution that 'these are not intended to be comprehensive research and development agendas' and 'do not purport to speak for or direct the overall field'; they instead illuminate the specificity of practitioners' questions. Each agenda organizes research questions and development priorities into categories such as Student Learning/Outcomes, Assessment/Measurement, Professional Development, Implementation/Scaling, and Policy/Political Context.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Synthesis of convening session notes, internal reflection notes, and participant feedback surveys
- Partnership with district team members and convening participants to compile draft agendas
Constraints¶
- Agendas are context-specific; the authors state that replicating the convening with different districts 'would likely yield a different overall agenda, even if certain core questions overlapped'
Target Learners¶
- Middle and high school students in literacy, and K-12 students in computational thinking, especially underserved students
Target Learning Goals¶
- Guiding future research and development on equitable literacy, writing, and CT instruction
Related Elements¶
Examples¶
- Convene cross-sector stakeholders in a structured eight-step process to co-develop practice-driven, equity-centered R&D agendas
- Open convenings with equity sentence stems and equity champion keynotes to build trust and shared commitment
- Encourage Reading Diverse Texts
- Classroom Library Curation
