Description¶
The CBAM, developed by the Research and Development Center for Teacher Education in Austin, Texas, is a developmental model of innovation adoption proposing that adopters progress through a predictable sequence of seven concerns: from self-oriented Awareness, Informational, and Personal concerns, to task-related Management concerns, to impact-related Consequence, Collaboration, and Refocusing concerns. The article uses it as the organizing framework for interpreting teachers' adoption of networked CAI and multimedia, measuring concerns with the SoCQ. It also proposes that change interventions will be more effective if they address the concerns predominant at the time.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Measurement of adopters' concerns profiles, e.g. via the Stages of Concern Questionnaire, to locate adopters in the sequence
Constraints¶
- The article's findings indicate the strictly sequential conception requires modification, since early concerns persisted while later ones emerged
Target Learners¶
- elementary school teachers adopting classroom technologies
Target Learning Objectives¶
- successful integration of technological innovations into teaching practice
