Description

The report organizes the entire assessment around the Simple View of Reading (Gough & Tunmer, 1986), which it calls "a research-validated model of reading development that proposes two broad factors that enable or limit passage comprehension: decoding and language comprehension." Decoding is measured through Phonological Awareness and Phonics & Word Recognition domains; language comprehension through Picture Vocabulary and Listening Comprehension; oral reading fluency integrates both. The framework determines which measures are administered to students not yet ready to read passages.
