Taxonomy development for technology: a four-step research approach to visualize the totality of technology¶
Theory · All theories
Evidence · no claims cited
Description¶
The report proposes that taxonomies must be developed for the technologies, since other disciplines have developed them but this has never been done in the technologies, leaving contemporary efforts fragmented. It outlines a logical approach: develop a taxonomy for the three areas including both technical and socio-cultural elements; determine relationships between all areas and elements to produce a Gestalt of technology; determine the cultural universals necessary for life in the technological order; and determine the most logical approach for educating people to live in that society.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Scholarly research, interdisciplinary inquiry, and the willingness to change
Constraints¶
- Because technology has exponential growth, a taxonomy would never be complete; it could only be kept up-to-date
Target Learners¶
- Industrial arts teacher educators and researchers
Target Learning Objectives¶
- Determining what should be studied by all students about technology and how it should be studied
Claims¶
Related Theories¶
- Bloom's Taxonomy
- Taxonomy of mobile apps for language learning: three groups plus a separate dictionaries/translators category
- Four-category taxonomy of adaptive and maladaptive congruence/incongruence
