q3 i? IP-Sham showed significantly lower TT than RP-Sham at the 6 h and 24 h retention tests, while TT was similar 5 min after training. → Taewon Kim 2024

In the randomized three-group experiment, the 2 (Group: IP-Sham, RP-Sham) × 3 (Time Point) repeated-measures ANOVA on retention tests found a significant interaction, with IP-Sham showing lower TT at 6 h and 24 h; Fig. 2a reports "greater long-term performance due to offline improvement" for IP whereas RP showed forgetting.
"a IP led to greater long-term performance due to offline improvement in the immediate (5 min), medium-term (6 h), and long- term (24 h) compared to the final block of practice, whereas RP shows signi ficant forgetting at all post-practice recall time points compared to the end of practice."
Discussion¶
Learner Variables¶
- Long-Term Memory — outcome: instruction changes it
Related Claims¶
- Cathodal tDCS to M1 during interleaved practice weakens encoding, producing poorer performance across training and at all retention tests — related
- Early offline gain after interleaved practice is reduced by ctDCS: IP-Sham improves from final training block to the 5-min test while IP-ctDCS remains stable — related
- Consolidation trajectories differ by schedule: IP-Sham is stable over 6 h then improves after sleep, while RP-Sham forgets in the first 6 h — related
- Repetitive practice yields faster online acquisition than interleaved practice for motor sequence learning — related
- Stimulation at PMd during repetitive practice fails to induce the early (6-h) time-dependent consolidation typical of interleaved practice — related
- Anodal tDCS at left PMd, but not right PMd, during repetitive practice produces sleep-related offline gain similar to interleaved practice — related
- Forgetting after repetitive practice is extremely rapid, appearing within roughly 3–5 minutes after training ends — related
