q2 i? Participation in science club has a positive, statistically significant relationship with cumulative high school science GPA under OLS with covariates and under block, nearest-neighbor, and kernel matching. → Gottfried 2013

q2 · i? · associational · r3
Propensity score matching analysis of science club participation on science GPA in the Add Health sample. Block (0.251, p<0.05), nearest-neighbor (0.212, p<0.10), and kernel (0.396, p<0.001) coefficients were all significant; the full-model OLS coefficient was 0.250 (p<0.001). No standardized effect size is printed for the matching models.
"When matched on their propensities to select into a science club, students in science club had higher science GPAs, as evidenced by significant coefficients in all three propensity score matching methods."

- Gender does not moderate the club participation–GPA relationship in math or science — related
- Math club participation is positively associated with high school math GPA, with a medium standardized relationship that persists after propensity score matching — related
- Science club participation shows no statistically significant relationship with selecting a STEM college major — related
- STEM club participants differ descriptively from non-participants in GPA, course-taking, test scores, and college desire — a broader claim this one bears on
