Description¶
This artifact is a school-specific tracking report that follows one elementary school's graduates into Chicago Public Schools high schools and Academic Preparatory Centers. It combines a five-year outcomes tracking design, in which it "tracks for five years members of the eighth-grade class of 1997", with a one-year on-track design covering the eighth-grade classes of 1997 to 2001. It presents results in ten tables and two figures broken out by gender, eighth-grade ITBS achievement level, and destination high school, and is explicitly meant to be informative, not evaluative.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Access to CPS Student Information System codes for dropout, graduation, and leaving-CPS status, and to high school transcript data
Constraints¶
- The report cannot follow students into non-CPS high schools, so outcomes for those enrollees are not reported
- Data do not adjust for student population factors such as low-income percentage, special education eligibility, or English language learner status
Target Learners¶
- Eighth-grade graduates of Vivaldi Elementary School entering Chicago Public Schools high schools or Academic Preparatory Centers
Target Learning Goals¶
- Monitoring post-elementary achievement and progress toward high school graduation
Claims¶
- Vivaldi students' first-year on-track rates differed across destination high schools for the 1997 cohort [+W]
- Vivaldi students' first-year on-track rates differed across destination high schools for the 2001 cohort [+W]
- Vivaldi first-year on-track counts fluctuated between 24 and 31 across the classes of 1997–2001 [+W]
- The on-track indicator is strongly related to students' likelihood of graduating [+W]
- First-year performance is treated as important enough that graduates are attributed to their first-enrolled high school [~W]
- Systemwide CPS first-year on-track percentages ranged from 44.8 to 50.8 across the 1997–2001 cohorts [~W]
