Use student experience data in an iterative inquire-change-monitor cycle with students as partners¶

Description¶
The playbook recommends that teachers and staff use Cultivate data in a continuous cycle: "Ask questions about what students are experiencing in school", brainstorm potential changes with colleagues and students, try out changes and see what works, what doesn't, and why, then ask more questions. Schools that embrace the work move from students giving feedback to students participating, partnering, and leading in decision-making, which the playbook says improves learning conditions and students' sense of agency and belonging.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Educators treat discrepancies between educator and student experiences as issues of intent vs. impact
- Working with colleagues to create change and promote consistent experiences for students
Constraints¶
- Cultivate data are a starting point; schools should use additional data sources and conversations, such as Student Data Circles, to understand student experiences
Target Learners¶
- Students in grades 5-12
Target Learning Goals¶
- Improving classroom learning conditions and student experiences through adult-student partnership
