Description¶
The CMR model is the article's solution to procedural admissions: it organizes admissions around three emphases. As the abstract states, "In CMR, an emphasis on social contexts, transitional metaphors, and relationships were used to ease youths' transitions into residential treatment." The model integrates constructivist therapies and youth care work into a contextually relevant rite of passage, incorporating admission standards into short-term emergency and long-term expected admissions, and pursues a shift toward gradual, empathic concern for individuals.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Workers trained in constructivist techniques and admission standards incorporated into short-term emergency and long-term expected admissions
Constraints¶
Target Learners¶
- youths admitted to residential treatment (mainly male youths aged 12-18 with behavioral or conduct-related diagnoses)
Target Learning Objectives¶
- adjusting comfortably to residential treatment
- forming relationships with workers
- developing new meanings about oneself and one's problems
Claims¶
- Workers Treat Admissions As Sudden Procedural Event [+M]
- Cmr Model Viewed As Comfortable Transition [+M]
Related Theories¶
Examples¶
- Admission structured as a rite of passage combining rituals and constructivist therapy
- Favor gradual, empathic concern for individuals over quick, cost-effective efficiency in transition therapies
- Conduct admissions as a gradual therapeutic process examining needs, forming relationships, involving supports, and celebrating arrival
- Metaphor anchors for supporting newly admitted youths
- Care-Giver Primacy as a worker stance for meeting new youths' needs
