Description¶
The report's learning-theories theme treats three areas: collaborative learning, where people 'learn socially through shared words, actions, and meanings' with social tools; embodied learning, where theories 'seek to understand how movements, gestures, and actions influence learning' and design integrates gesture with technology; and identity, where sociocultural theories examine how a person forms identity situationally and learning is about developing identity, not just knowledge or skill.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Learning theories are interwoven with emerging technology and research methods to uncover processes of how learning unfolds
Constraints¶
- Cognitive theories and neuroscience theories also inform the work but are treated in other themes or overlaps
Target Learners¶
- Learners from young children to adults in the workforce, including ELL students
Target Learning Objectives¶
- STEM topics, language learning, reading, writing, and workforce skills
Claims¶
Related Theories¶
- Ambitious mashups: cyberlearning projects combine novel technologies, theories, methods, and equity goals in frontier-oriented integrations
- Four most common AI technology types in cyberlearning: intelligent tutoring systems, machine learning, speech/vision/natural interaction, and social robotics and avatars
- Six emerging design genres organize cyberlearning design research
