Description¶
Beyond the established categories, the review identifies two emerging, LA-relevant approaches. Contextual integrity associates privacy with information flows regulated by relative norms (context, actors, attributes, transmission principles); intellectual privacy protects "intellectual activities such as searching for information, writing, and thinking," and is seen as a condition for student autonomy. The authors present both as important dimensions for LA communities to consider, not as the only ways to define privacy in LA.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Recognition that these approaches are still emerging and complementary to, not replacements for, established definitions
Constraints¶
- Contextual integrity is not proposed as a full definition of privacy but as a framework for evaluating information flows between agents
Target Learners¶
- learning analytics researchers and practitioners
- students in LA-instrumented educational settings
Target Learning Objectives¶
- protecting student privacy and autonomy in learning analytics
