Description

The A4L Analytics Pipeline is a component of the Architecture for AI-Augmented Learning that performs statistical analyses on learner interaction data from educational AI assistants. It is "defined as a state machine that runs in a cloud environment" taking "a JSON-formatted analysis configuration payload as input". A data fetch module retrieves specified datasets into a staging area, and an analysis module performs pre-processing, transforms, and analysis, uploading results to durable object storage for the Visualization Pipeline's role-specific dashboards. Daily scheduled runs monitor the published data store for new data and run affected payloads.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Datasets must be loaded into the A4L published data store by the A4L Data Engine before the pipeline can fetch and analyze them.
  • An analysis configuration payload specifying dataset, variables, statistic, and result location must be supplied.

Constraints

  • Extension of the pipeline's capabilities in this study was performed by research team members familiar with the system's architecture.

Target Learners

  • graduate-level online computer science students at Georgia Tech

Learning Goals

  • understanding AI assistant adoption, performance, need for cognition, and sense of belonging through learning analytics
