Description

The empirical basis of the study is a one-year action and design-based research project in which "59 teachers from eight upper secondary schools developed action plans for interventions in the form of teaching activities using AI". Teachers attended an initiating workshop introducing cognitive partnership and epistemic practices, completed five-month interventions, then revised plans in a second workshop cycle. Data consist of eight student group interviews with 48 students (28 male, 20 female), most aged 16–19, analyzed via reflexive thematic analysis. Outcomes were the research findings and teacher-designed teaching plans.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Teachers develop their own exploratory action plans; the project does not prescribe specific practices or AI use

Constraints

  • Interviewed students were selected by teachers from the participating teachers' classes; findings are qualitative and from one national context

Target Learners

  • upper secondary school students aged 16–19

Learning Goals

  • emerging epistemic practices with generative AI in schoolwork
