Description¶
The agents studied were "animated characters represented in human form" that converse with learners via an artificial intelligence engine matching student comments to agent responses. Responses are delivered in both textual form and computer-generated lip-synchronised audio to accommodate learner preferences, and the agents can reuse prior information exchanged so as to appear to remember previous conversations. Students in the course used the agent voluntarily for assistance or support.
