Description¶
The article proposes an instructional model that integrates "a generative AI-powered digital tutor with a knowledge graph–based learning environment, guided by Gagné's Nine Events of Instruction". The digital tutor provides personalized preview tasks, real-time question answering, adaptive feedback, and customized review plans, while the knowledge graph organizes anatomical, histological, embryological and clinical concepts as interconnected nodes and links. All three trial arms followed the same 16-week structure; the model was evaluated in a three-arm randomized controlled trial among first-year nursing students.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Requires a knowledge graph–based learning environment representing course concepts as interconnected nodes and links
- Requires students with basic computer literacy to use the online learning platform
Constraints¶
- Evaluated at a single medical college over a single semester, which the authors state may limit generalizability
- The study did not independently validate the technical development of the digital tutor or audit the factual accuracy of AI-generated responses
Target Learners¶
- First-year nursing students in foundational anatomy and histology & embryology courses
Learning Goals¶
- Academic performance in anatomy and histology & embryology
- Knowledge retention
- Case-based clinical reasoning
- Structured knowledge organization
Claims¶
- Ai Enhanced Group Higher Module Scores Rct [+M]
- Ai Enhanced Higher Final Comprehensive Scores [+M]
- Knowledge Graph Comprehension Large Effect [+M]
- Ai Enhanced Higher Knowledge Retention [+M]
- Ai Enhanced Higher Case Inference Accuracy [+M]
