Description¶
A speculative clip-on augmentation positioned between the bridge and fingerboard, using two moving tensioners that hold the bow and shift position according to the string being played. Rather than enforcing a fixed path, it makes bow deviation perceptible through graded friction that increases as the bow drifts, aiming to build muscle memory through repeated practice. Envisioned functions include non-visual feedback for drift and contact-point change, continuous low-attention feedback enabling mid-stroke correction, adaptive bow-lane awareness for dynamics, and practice scaffolding with post-practice summaries.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Must preserve freedom of movement and function as a learning companion rather than define a single correct technique or replace instruction.
Constraints¶
- Speculative concept not yet evaluated in deployed contexts; the authors state whether it works in practice remains to be evaluated.
Target Learners¶
- Violin and viola learners with blindness and low-vision
Learning Goals¶
- Straight bow path, contact-point awareness, and bow-lane control for dynamics
Claims¶
Related Designs¶
- Augmented bow hold aid with finger pressure force mapping
- Left-hand alignment wearable with personalized baseline and event-based haptic feedback
