Description¶
The researchers designed a six-week (Grade 11) and eight-week (Grade 10) blended course proportionating "50 percent of face to face learning and 50 percent of online learning". The normal 80-minute weekly period was split into 30 minutes face-to-face instruction and 50 minutes lab instruction, with lesson exploration done through the Moodle LMS. Lesson plans followed the 5E instructional design model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate) and targeted competencies difficult for students, such as practical singing/playing, creative works, and performing abilities.
Design Implications¶
Context¶

- Requires an LMS (Moodle) with student registration and access to computers, plus supplementary audio and video materials prepared for weekly lessons
Constraints¶
- Depends on available technology infrastructure; the article notes the Moodle network reached 300 senior secondary schools with WAN connection through SchoolNet
Target Learners¶
- Grade 10 and 11 students studying Oriental Music for GCE Ordinary Level in Sri Lankan government schools
Learning Goals¶
- Oriental Music theory and practical competencies required at Ordinary Level
