Description

The programme combines one-hour plenary sessions and one-hour small-group sessions (15 students) with two to four hours of computer-mediated work on a Moodle platform offering three spaces: a course space with scenarios and instructions, a class space for submitting productions and receiving feedback, and a VRC containing "contextualised practice exercises and explanations of specific forms". Students in groups of three or four complete six to eight business-oriented collaborative real-world tasks leading to oral and written productions, with corrective feedback helping them notice the gap.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Teacher corrective feedback in the form of advice and suggestions directing students to post-task VRC micro-tasks
  • Group work of three or four students on collaborative real-world tasks

Constraints

  • VRC was underexploited by students, making its effects on language development difficult to assess

Target Learners

  • first-year university LEA (Foreign Languages and International Trade) students, CEFR levels A1 to C2

Learning Goals

  • business English accuracy, fluency, and professional competence in English
