Educational objectives for a dietary oral health curriculum organized according to Bloom's knowledge and cognitive process dimensions¶
Design · All designs

Description¶
The framework organizes educational objectives for each diet-related oral health domain, diet and nutrition principle, and dietary counseling component according to Bloom's knowledge dimensions (factual, conceptual, procedural, metacognitive) and cognitive process dimensions (remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate, create). Objectives are defined at the conceptual as opposed to the granular level, as observed with course or lecture learning outcomes. For example, the caries objective 'identify fermentable carbohydrates within diet' depends on the cognitive process of remembering within the factual knowledge dimension.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Educational objectives must be identified according to Bloom's knowledge and cognitive process domains
Constraints¶
- Educational objectives are defined at the conceptual as opposed to the granular level
Target Learners¶
- Oral health care students
Learning Goals¶
- Acquire the knowledge and cognitive processes needed to assess diet and counsel patients on diet-related oral disease risk
