Description

The article's simulation sessions followed a fixed structure: "The simulation sessions included briefing (5 min), simulation (10 min) and debriefing (30 min)". The debriefing was held immediately after the simulation, during which students viewed performance videos and analysed them with the GAS (Gather/Analyse/Summarise) technique. Pretest and posttests were themselves conducted as scenario-based simulations scored by two independent observers.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Video recordings of performances for review in debriefing; trained observers; scenario materials piloted before use

Constraints

  • Video recordings were deleted after the same-day debriefing session, per the study's ethics procedure

Target Learners

  • Undergraduate nursing students in intensive care courses

Learning Goals

  • Clinical skill performance for VAP prevention and safe care of mechanically ventilated patients
