Description

Two multimedia treatment packages were "developed by the researchers and programmers" using software including flash 8 and dream-weaver. Both presented "animation of the major concepts in solid geometry and on-screen texts with lesson objectives, examples, illustrations in animation format, quizzes"; the only difference was narration in AN versus on-screen text in AT. The AT package presented words and graphics near each other to reduce cognitive load.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Computers displaying the animation packages for experimental group use over the six-week treatment

Constraints

  • The packages covered specific solid geometry topics: surface area and volume of cubes, cuboids, cones, cylinders, spheres, hemispheres and pyramids

Target Learners

  • Senior Secondary class Two (SSII) students in Nigeria

Learning Goals

  • Solid geometry: surface area and volume of cubes, cuboids, cones, cylinders, spheres, hemispheres and pyramids
