Description¶
Ten daily computer-assisted reading lessons delivered the treatments to all three groups in a common format: "a text that appeared on the screen in three sequential reading-skills formats—a skimming format, an in-depth reading format, and a scanning format—followed by the two measures of comprehension". The experimental manipulation occurred during Reading for Understanding: the meaning-oriented group received lexical rephrasings and sentence clarification, the rule-oriented group viewed Animated Grammar decomposition and recombination, and controls viewed only the text sentences. Daily comprehension tests and L1 recall summaries were built in.
