Description¶
A MOOC component combining weekly chat-based collaborative activities in which students "collaborate in dyads to submit a joint answer as a team" with a conversational agent (TIM) that injects prompts during peer discussion, plus a learning analytics module showing individual, partner, and cross-group performance graphs. Students can compare their metrics with peers and decide whether to change learning strategy; interactions with the LA module are logged.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Students work in dyads with a joint reward (an activity grade); pairing is first-come-first-served and supported by scheduled timeslots and a course forum for pairing requests
Constraints¶
- Some students were unable to find a partner for chat activities, and completion required participation coefficient incentives rather than compulsory collaboration
Target Learners¶
- Online MOOC learners, in this case novices learning Python and algorithmic thinking
Learning Goals¶
- Productive peer dialogue, individual and group awareness, and improved learning outcomes in introductory programming
