Description¶
The CMC-ELT Blended Learning Model is a need-oriented framework that enhances previous distance education models "by adding the component of technology with distance education to create a more cost-efficient way of bringing the learning environment to the learners". It adopts a collaborative constructivist perspective associated with Dewey's principles of interaction and continuity, and uses text-based communication as its primary mode. The model was implemented through AIOU's Olive virtual learning environment, built in Moodle, providing tools for tutors to present materials and mark assignments, for students to manage progress and communicate, and for administration to produce reports.
Design Implications¶

Requirements¶
- Implementation within a general distance educational setting, taking into account the nature of the programme, the subject matter, the profile of the students, the support facilities and educational technology available

- The model "does not project a new pedagogical framework but it enhances the previous models of learning"
Target Learners¶
- Post-graduate MA TEFL students in distance education
Learning Goals¶
- English language teaching skills
- Critical thinking and self-directed learning abilities
