Description¶
This pattern describes the recurring design decisions the research team and community partners made when co-creating the AI education session. Balanced topics covered both positive and negative sides of AI; conceptual grounding used "educational materials suitable for a general audience without prior AI expertise"; local relevance drew on community examples such as deepfakes and local landscapes; and dialogical learning treated members as co-producers of AI understanding rather than recipients of expert knowledge.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Community partner involvement in feedback and revision rounds on session materials
- Content accessible at an 8th-grade reading level with technical terms avoided
Constraints¶
- The pattern was developed for adults outside formal educational systems in a community setting rather than academic classrooms
Target Learners¶
- Adults outside formal educational systems in a local community
Learning Goals¶
- Building a comprehensive mental map of AI
- Understanding core AI concepts such as data, training, and bias
