Description¶
In the experimental treatment, slideshow content presented the same fundamental concepts as the comparison treatment but applied them to real-world situations highlighting how technologies operate in industry. Lessons used "extensive use of video presentations such as virtual field trips and how–to type documentaries", and activities included case studies, problem-solving scenarios, and team-based exercises, several requiring students to produce artifacts a teacher would create in a job-related scenario. Assessment likewise employed authentic tasks.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- All teaching and assessment materials must be designed with the components of contextual teaching and learning in mind
Constraints¶
- Delivered via distance education through Moodle; results limited to one course at one university with small class sizes
Target Learners¶
- postsecondary students, primarily agricultural education majors
Learning Goals¶
- scientific concepts of environmental biotechnology
- application of content to real-world agricultural contexts
